Written Answers. - Teacher Training Courses.
As outlined to the Deputy in reply to Parliamentary Question No. 156 of 29 April 1997, the in-career development unit of my Department commissioned the special education department of St. Patrick's Training College, Drumcondra to organise, during 1996, an inservice programme for teachers working with children having severe-profound mental handicap.
Officials of my Department have had further discussions with the college authorities and it has now been agreed that the special education department will provide additional inservice programmes, for teachers working with children having severe-profound mental handicap during the next school year. In addition, a programme to meet the inservice needs of principals of schools catering for such pupils is planned to commence in November 1997.
