Ceist:

599 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education when replacement remedial teachers will be appointed to cover the ten schools on Achill Island and at Achill Sound, County Mayo. [14781/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 597, 598 and 599 together.

The ten schools referred to by the Deputy comprise a cluster of schools which receive the services of an ex-quota remedial teacher.

I understand that the individual appointed as remedial teacher to this cluster left this position on 31 August 1977. It is the responsibility of the board of management of the base school to fill the resulting vacancy by recruiting a suitable replacement teacher.

I would be anxious that any vacant teaching post should be filled as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to the schools affected and the pupils who are in need of this important service.
