Vol. 480 No. 8

Written Answers. - PRSI Reductions.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

96 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance the cost of introducing measures which would reduce the cost of PRSI for persons availing of the tax relief to employ someone to provide home assistance to an incapacitated person; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15221/97]

It is assumed that the question refers to the provision of relief in respect of employers' PRSI contributions where a taxpayer is in receipt of the income tax allowance for the employment of a person to take care of an incapacitated taxpayer or spouse. I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that statistics are not recorded in such a manner as would enable the precise information requested by the Deputy to be provided. Such information could not be obtained without undertaking inquiries which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.
