276 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the length of time the canal between Clarke's Bridge and Russel Street/Jones' Road, Dublin 3, will be closed; when it will be reopened for fishing and other activities; and if she will make a statement on the matter. A 260 metre stretch of canal property east of Russel Street Bridge is closed to the general public because of construction works. Officials of my Department are engaged in discussions with the Gaelic Athletic Association with a view to concluding an agreement on terms and conditions to apply in respect of the proposed new canal end stand which will be cantilevered at high level over canal property. Since these discussions have not been finalised, it is not possible for me to state the length of time the canal between Clarke's Bridge and Russel Street-Jones Road will be closed.
