Vol. 488 No. 1

Written Answers - Courts Procedures.

Jim Higgins

Ceist:

235 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has satisfied himself that it was correct procedure to arrest and jail a person (details supplied) for the non-payment of rates on a company building at a time when his company had been put into liquidation. [5544/98]

The person in question was arrested and committed to prison on foot of a warrant issued by the court in relation to the non-payment of a civil debt. The issuing of warrants is a matter for the courts who are independent in their functions under the Constitution.
