Vol. 488 No. 1

Written Answers - Passports for Investment Scheme.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

236 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of those individuals whose applications were approved between the years 1988 and 1994 who were relieved of the requirement to swear loyalty to the State and fidelity to the nation in relation to the passports for investment scheme. [5545/98]

An examination conducted in my Department indicates that in the period referred to by the Deputy, a total of nine persons, who would normally be required to make a declaration of loyalty to the State and fidelity to the nation, were relieved of that requirement by the Minister of the day. In a further eight cases, the examination shows no record in my Department that declarations were made but the files do not indicate a specific ministerial decision to waive the requirement.
