Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Departmental Grants.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

288 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he will make an allocation of funding under the capital grants programme for sporting facilities throughout the country; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6227/98]

My Department is currently examining all applications received by 11 February 1998 under the sports capital programme in the context of the 1998 round of grant allocations. I hope to announce the 1998 grants shortly and clubs will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

289 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if lottery funding will be awarded to The Keel community hall committee, Achill Island, County Mayo who have recently made an application in relation to a tourist community based project. [6155/98]

An application for funding under the sports capital programme was received from the Keel community hall committee in February, 1998 and will be considered when the grant allocations are being made for the coming year in accordance with the criteria for awarding such grants as set out in the terms and conditions of the programme.

Seamus Kirk

Ceist:

290 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if applicants for financial support under the recreational facilities scheme are obliged to provide wheelchair access to any premises being constructed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6156/98]

Grants allocated under the sports capital programme are paid on satisfactory completion of each of the individual projects, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the existing programme. Under the terms of the programme, planning permission and by-law approval must be obtained where required. The provision of wheelchair access is a matter for the relevant planning authority and is governed by building control regulations.
