Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

291 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will resolve the situation (details supplied) whereby Sundays Well boys' national school, Strawberry Hill, Cork, is awaiting the final payment on a grant, which has been delayed by a go-slow in his Department and the Office of Public Works could not formulate the plans for the erection of palisade fencing. [8177/98]

The final instalment of grant due to Sundays Well boys' national school, Strawberry Hill, Cork, for the erection of palisade fencing issued on 10 February 1998. It has since emerged that the payable order has not been cashed and my Department is taking steps to cancel it and issue a replacement.

My Department has been in contact with the consultant engaged on the project and has requested an invoice for the fees associated with the works. This is expected shortly. When this is received, a grant will be approved and the school will be notified accordingly.

There is no go-slow within my Department and the project has not been delayed.
