139 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will have investigations made into the possibility of providing an alternative school for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10279/98]
I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.
The selection and enrolment of second level pupils in school is, in the first instance, the responsibility of individual schools. In exceptional circumstances my Department provides assistance to parents who encounter difficulty in securing a suitable school placement.
To ascertain the education needs of the person in question, a questionnaire has been issued to the parent who has been advised of the importance of this document on a number of occasions. When a reply is received, my Department will consider what further action is required in the case.
