Vol. 490 No. 4

Written Answers. - Early Childhood Education.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

140 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will report on the progress of the resolution of those issues raised with him by the early childhood services parents' group, Cork city and county, following that group's ongoing representations to him. [10280/98]

My Department is actively engaged in pursuing the issues raised by the Early Childhood Services Parents Group for Cork city and county.

I am aware from my meeting with the group that they are particularly concerned to ensure that adequate special school places are made available in the Cork area to cater for children who suffer from mental handicap and autism.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department is at an advanced stage in planning for additional places in the Cork area to cater for the children in question. Our objective is that the places in question will come on stream in September next.
