Vol. 491 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

353 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the proposed sewerage scheme for Donegal town, County Donegal. [12153/98]

This scheme has been included in the 1998 water and sewerage services investment programme to advance through planning.

Ceist:

355 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the proposed sewerage scheme for Burtonport, County Donegal. [12155/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 354 and 355 together.

Funding for these schemes was sought as part of an application for Cohesion Fund assistance submitted to the European Commission in respect of the gaeltacht area Donegal sewerage schemes. Approval has not been forthcoming. In view of this and the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage services investment programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to advance these proposals.

Ceist:

356 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will allocate further resources to Donegal County Council in order that it can proceed with work on a number of group water schemes planned for a number of years and now at tendering stage. [12156/98]

Under the 1998 rural water programme, a block grant allocation of £941,573 was notified to Donegal County Council on 18 March 1998. A relatively small amount of unallocated moneys is being considered for distribution among local authorities, including Donegal, having regard to submissions already received from them.
