Written Answers. - Addiction Studies.

Pat Carey

Ceist:

424 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will provide funding for URRUS, Ireland's community addiction studies training centre, in view of the excellent work of the centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21443/98]

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

457 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will release funding for an organisation (details supplied) in Dublin 11; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21773/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 424 and 457 together.

Community addiction studies courses which are run by various agencies in the Eastern Health Board area are being considered by the national drugs strategy team in consultation with local drugs task forces in the context of the training needs of individuals and agencies in the task force areas.

Funding for URRUS community addiction training centre will therefore be considered in the light of the outcome of discussions regarding training needs and resources available.
