Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Non-Consultant Hospital Doctors.

Frances Fitzgerald

Ceist:

467 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself that the agreement and conditions made with non-consultant hospital doctors in the memorandum of agreement under the Programme for Competitiveness and Work on 1 January 1997 is being implemented by hospitals. [21784/98]

I am satisfied that the terms and conditions for non-consultant hospital doctors agreed between my Department, the Health Service Employers Agency and the Irish Medical Organisation are being implemented by hospitals throughout the country. The memorandum of agreement which came into effect on 1 January 1997 allows for local discussions to take place between management, consultants and non-consultant hospital doctors to facilitate the implementation of the agreement. It is the responsibility of each individual agency to ensure that the terms and conditions for non-consultant hospital doctors are implemented, taking into account the service requirements for that particular agency.
