Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Centres.

Ceist:

470 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a health centre (details supplied) lacks wheelchair access; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21807/98]

The provision and maintenance of health centres in the Dublin area is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

I have been advised by the Eastern Health Board, in relation to the health centre referred to by the Deputy, that there are steps leading up to the main entrance but that wheelchair access can be gained through a rear door by prior arrangement. The provision of a ramp to the front entrance is difficult because of the layout of the building and vehicular access considerations.

The Eastern Health Board is aware that the current arrangements are unsatisfactory with respect to wheelchair access and is at present reviewing the situation.
