Vol. 495 No. 7

Written Answers. - Tribunal Costs.

Martin Brady

Ceist:

487 Mr. M. Brady asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the cost to date to the State of the Flood Tribunal in relation to legal fees and administration costs both direct and indirect. [21025/98]

Total expenditure up to 30 October 1998 on the Tribunal of Inquiry into Certain Planning Matters and Payments is £1,874,049, broken down as follows:

1997

1998

Legal Fees

Nil

£950,798

Administration Costs

£311,637

£611,614

In addition, payment claims were being processed amounting to £112,000 for legal fees and £31,000 for administration costs.
The only foreseeable indirect costs of the tribunal relate to the legal fees of those persons to whom legal representation has been granted by the tribunal. Payments will only arise under this heading when the tribunal has completed its work and the sole member has made his decision on the legal costs, if any, to be paid by the State.
