240 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received a request from AMEN to assist in funding its forthcoming conference which is one of the first in the world on the subject of male domestic violence; if he will offer financial assistance in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm for the House that I did receive a request for funding from AMEN to finance their forthcoming conference on male victims of domestic violence, entitled The Silence is Over. I also understand that the request was also made issued to other Government Departments.
While I welcome any initiatives which assist victims of crime the responsibility for funding agencies which provide services for victims of domestic violence is a matter for the Department of Health and Children.
