Vol. 499 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dublin Port Tunnel.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

104 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the consideration of the proposed Dublin Port tunnel; the schedule of all matters relating to various stages of consideration of the proposal; the stages where local residents can express their views; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2289/99]

Dublin Corporation submitted an environmental impact statement for the proposed Dublin port tunnel motorway on 15 July 1998 and submitted the motorway scheme on 17 July 1998. The closing date for the receipt of submissions was 15 October 1998 and 172 submissions were received in my Department. The National Roads Authority, NRA, submitted a toll scheme for the proposed port tunnel to me on 2 October 1998. The closing date for the receipt of submissions was 13 November 1998 and ten submissions were received in my Department.

I have appointed two inspectors jointly to hold a public inquiry into the motorway and toll schemes and my Department is now mandating Dublin Corporation to finalise arrangements for the inquiry. The date and time of the public inquiry will be advertised in the near future in the national press and all persons who made submissions to me will be directly informed of the details. Persons who attend the public inquiry will have an opportunity to present oral evidence related to the proposed project.
