Vol. 499 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

105 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of people to whom houses were made available by the local authorities under the aegis of his Department in 1998; the number likely to be re-housed in 1999; if he will express this number as a percentage of the total numbers of persons now recognised to be on waiting lists; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2291/99]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

116 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has enquired of the local authority as to the total number of local authorities houses made available to home seekers in the year ended 31 December 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2386/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 105 and 116 together.

Information regarding the number of house lettings in 1998, based on returns from local authorities, is being compiled in the Department and will be published in the Department's Annual Housing Statistics Bulletin for 1998.

It is estimated that the number of lettings from newly built or acquired houses and casual vacancies will have been approximately 7,500 in 1998.
