Vol. 500 No. 5

Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

135 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will establish a public inquiry to ascertain the reason children were administered during the late 1960's and early 1970's with the three-in-one vaccine which did not pass a toxicity test. [4482/99]

I have no plans to establish a public inquiry into this matter. My Department has obtained information from the health boards regarding the recorded usage of vaccine from Trivax Batch 3741. Further inquiries are being made of the pharmaceutical company concerned regarding some issues concerning this batch, and also regarding a number of other batches which, it has been alleged, did not pass certain tests. I will consider what, if any, further action is appropriate when the company's response is received.
