Vol. 500 No. 7

Written Answers. - Fishing Fleet Modernisation.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

119 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources where tonnage was allocated for each of the past five years on a county basis. [4984/99]

A breakdown by county of the tonnage of vessels licensed under the special scheme for regularising the position of small fishing boats is not readily available but I have arranged for the data to be compiled and these will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as possible.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

120 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has not been approved for tonnage in view of the fact he applied in 1990, 1993 and 1995; the reason the west of Ireland is being discriminated against; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4985/99]

The person in question is seeking to have a boat licensed under the special scheme for regularising the position of small fishing vessels. While he has indicated that he made a number of applications for a licence, the only recorded application from him in my Department consists of documents received in December 1996, which was after the closing date for receipt of applications under the special scheme. My Department is in contact with the person concerned, with a view to clarifying the position. All applications under the special scheme are processed in accordance with the criteria laid down for the scheme on a non-discriminatory basis.
