Vol. 501 No. 6

Written Answers. - Coastal Protection.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

122 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the plans, if any, the Government has for coastal protection at Killeen, Louisburgh, County Mayo. [6654/99]

Grant aid was made available for two of the priority coast protection projects submitted by Mayo County Council for consideration under the coast protection measure of the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-1999. The area referred to by the Deputy was not among the coast protection proposals submitted to my Department by Mayo County Council.

I recently announced my Department's coastal protection plan for 1999 under which financial assistance will be provided in respect of two further projects in County Mayo. In view of the considerable calls on the funding available for coast protection, I regret that it is unlikely to be possible to provide further grant aid to Mayo County Council this year.
