Vol. 502 No. 6

Written Answers. - Road Safety.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

254 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has developed educational material for circulation through the schools to encourage young cyclists not to use the footpaths; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9101/99]

Responsibility for developing and disseminating publicity, advertisements and educational material on road safety is assigned to the National Safety Council.

As part of its contribution to the Government Strategy on Road Safety 1998 to 2002, the council is preparing new resource material for input into the primary school curriculum and new material and programmes for the post primary sector. It is understood that this material will include information on safe cycling behaviour.
