Ceist:276 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) in County Limerick is in receipt of a reduced retirement pension; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10279/99]

The early retirement pension for farmers is regarded as taxable income and tax is deducted at source by my Department.
The reduction in the pension for the person named arose because no tax free allowance certificate was received by my Department and accordingly, there was a legal obligation to deduct tax on the emergency tax basis.
The person should contact the Revenue Commissioners for details of how to obtain a tax free allowance certificate.
