Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

John Perry

Ceist:

302 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance if, further to Parliamentary Question 231 of 16 February 1999, the case of a person (details supplied) in County Sligo will be reviewed in relation to an overpayment of tax; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10042/99]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that in March 1998 the taxpayer submitted to the office of the Collector General a claim for a refund of overpaid levies. In the same month, a cheque for £54.86 was issued to the address held on file for the taxpayer.

In February 1999 the taxpayer contacted the tax office advising that she had not yet received the refund. It was established at that time that the taxpayer had changed address and that the cheque had issued to the old address rather than to the address given on the application for the refund.
As the cheque was never received by the taxpayer, the Accountant General's office have written to the taxpayer requesting certain information that will enable that office to reissue the cheque.
