Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Summer Jobs Scheme.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

427 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has not received a 1998 student summer job scheme payment in view of the fact she did return to full time education and others in a similar situation have been paid. [9973/99]

The purpose of the students summer jobs scheme is to provide income support during the summer holiday period for less well-off third level students who are disqualified from receiving unemployment assistance and are unable to obtain summer work. Students who have completed their course of study are not eligible to participate in the scheme as such students are eligible to apply for unemployment assistance if they are unable to obtain summer work.

The person concerned completed a course of study in May 1998 and was, therefore, not eligible to participate in the 1998 students summer jobs scheme.
