491 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, further to his settlement with a former Minister for Justice (details supplied), which was settled and made a Rule of Court on 28 October 1998, the State agreed to meet the former Minister's legal costs; and if so, the amount of those costs. Proceedings brought by the former Minister for Justice named by the Deputy against Ireland and the Attorney General were settled on 28 October 1998 by agreement. My predecessor, following receipt of legal advice, had previously agreed in principle to settle this action. The terms of the settlement included a contribution by the State of £12,000 towards the plaintiff's legal costs.
