Ceist:

162 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the applications which have been submitted by Mayo County Council for coastal erosion projects within the county; and the amount of funding sanctioned for these projects. [10144/99]

Under the Coast Protection Measure of the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-1999, Mayo County Council has submitted nine applications for coastal protection projects to my Department. The details are as follows:

Sand dunes protection, rock armouring & protection of woodlands & repairs to pier deck.

2. Belmullet town & Elly Bay Strand

Repair of quay & canal walls.

3. Keel, Dooagh & Keem beaches

Sand dune protection,rock armouring.

4. Ross, Lacken & Ballycastle Beaches

Rock revertment, rock armouring and dune protection.

5. Ardmore, Binghimstown & Belmullet

Coastal protection.

6. Mulranny Golf Course

Coastal protection.

7. Claggan Island

Dune & causeway protection.

8. Innisbiggle

Coastal protection.

9. Mulranny Beach

Coastal protection.

My Department has provided financial assistance of £78,750 in respect of works at Bertra beach and £11,250 in respect of works at Claggan Island.
As part of the coast protection programme for 1999, I recently approved the allocation of financial assistance for dune reinstatement works at Claggan Island at a total cost of £30,000, and a study of required works at Elly Bay at a total cost of £20,000.
