Vol. 503 No. 3

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

163 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if funding is being allocated to Porturlin Pier, Ballina, County Mayo; if funding will be allocated to widen the access road to this pier; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10145/99]

Porturlin Pier is owned by Mayo County Council and maintenance and development of the facilities are, therefore, the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.

I recently announced that financial assistance will be provided for the dredging of the inner basin and the provision of mooring piles, at a total cost of £50,000, at Porturlin Pier.

The widening of the access road to the pier is primarily a matter for Mayo County Council. The local authority has not been in contact with my Department on the matter.
