Ceist:

142 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science further to Parliamentary Question No. 87 of 16 June 1999, the number of art students who took the advanced technical school art exams in 1980 under the provisions of C/L11/79; and the number of subjects at advanced level with a pass mark of 70 per cent which were required for the award of both the pass and honours art teachers certificates under C/L11/79. The details of the number of candidates who took the technical schools examinations in art (advanced) in 1980 are as follows:

In order to qualify for the award of the art teachers certificate a candidate was required,inter alia, to secure first class successes – 70 per cent – in all of the subjects of one of the following groups of the advanced stage of the Department's examinations in art : Group 1: Drawing from life; painting from life; pictorial design; design for craftwork; Group 2: Drawing from life; modelling from life; modelling design; design for craftwork.
Passes – 60 per cent – in executed specimens of two crafts other than those selected in the intermediate or advanced stage examinations.
The art teachers honours certificate was awarded to candidates who hold the art teachers certificate and have secured first class successes – 70 per cent – in the two remaining subjects of the group, 1 or 2, not already selected.
