Vol. 510 No. 3

Written Answers. - Paralympic Team.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

219 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Finance the funding, if any, he is making available towards the cost of sending the paralympic team to Sydney in 2000 in view of the fact the cost of sending the team is estimated to be £250,000. [22591/99]

The Minister for Finance has no function in relation to this matter. Following the enactment of the Sports Council Act, 1999 in July of this year responsibility for the funding of the Olympic Committee of Ireland and all other national governing bodies of sport was transferred from the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation to the council. The issue of funding for the paralympic team is now an operational matter for the Sports Council.
