Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Housing Grants.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

400 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of applications for the essential repairs grant scheme received by each urban council and the county council in County Mayo; the number of applicants approved; the number who were paid grant assistance; and if he will provide details for the disabled persons grant scheme administered by the county council. [12998/00]

The administration of the essential repairs grant scheme is a matter for each local authority, with my Department's role relating primarily to the recoupment of a proportion of local authority expenditure on the payment of grants. In July 1999, Mayo County Council devolved the administration of the scheme to the urban district councils within their areas. The statistics available in my Department relating to the essential repairs grant scheme for the urban district councils for the period July to December 1999 are as follows:

Ballina

Castlebar

Westport

Information on activity under the essential repairs grant and disabled persons grant schemes by Mayo County Council will be published in the next few days in my Department's 1999 annual housing statistics bulletin.
