Vol. 518 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

423 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has been refused unemployment assistance in view of the fact that he has submitted proof that he is genuinely seeking work. [12629/00]

The person concerned had been in receipt of unemployment assistance since February 1995. To establish that he continued to satisfy the statutory condition of genuinely seeking work, he was asked to complete a questionnaire regarding his efforts to secure employment. The deciding officer, having considered the response, was of the opinion the person concerned was not genuinely seeking work and disallowed his claim from 26 January 2000.

The person concerned has now appealed this decision to the social welfare appeals office and his case is being referred for consideration by an appeals officer.
