Vol. 520 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

218 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Education and Science further to a reply to Parliamentary Question No. 288 of 18 April 2000 if he has received a report from the Department's inspectorate on the level of resource teacher support required for children attending the Don national school, when a decision will be taken to provide such support; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15787/00]

My Department's inspectorate has investigated an application for resource teaching support in respect of pupils attending the school in question.

However, I understand that arising from a detailed review of the needs of the children concerned, the inspectorate concluded that the case made by the school did not warrant the allocation of resource teacher support. The school authorities have been advised of the decision.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

219 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will arrange for the appointment of a full time care assistant at a school (details supplied) in County Meath, as the existing provision is proving insufficient. [15788/00]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy.

An allocation of 20 hours child care assistant support per week has been made available to the school in question.

My Department's inspectorate has recently reviewed the adequacy of this allocation and has concluded that the current allocation is appropriate having regard to the needs of the school.
