Vol. 521 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

171 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will provide the funding to upgrade Ireland's only hyperbaric facility which is now a 24 year old unit and which is used most commonly to treat divers' bends but also to treat smoke inhalation, ulcers, gangrene and severe burns. [16431/00]

My Department is in discussions with the Western Health Board in relation to the overall resource requirements, both capital and revenue, of developing the hyperbaric facility at UCHG. The matter is being considered with the Western Health Board in the context of competing demands for resources under the national development plan and service development funds.
