Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers' Scheme.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

119 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the progress reported by the interdepartmental group currently studying the 1994 regulations in respect of Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions); if he will ensure an early and favourable conclusion to the discussions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23729/00]

As I have informed the House on a number of occasions, including in an adjournment debate on the issue last week, an interdepartmental review group, under the chair of an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform was set up to review the disabled drivers' and disabled passengers', tax concessions, scheme. I have been advised that the review group received over 250 written submissions and heard oral submissions over a three day period in early May 2000 and over a two and a half day period in September 2000. These submissions will help inform the group in its deliberations.

I have received no definite date for completion of the group's report. In the circumstances, I do not consider it prudent to make further comment on the work of the group at this time.
