Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Ceist:

52 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Finance the percentage of the profits raised through the national lottery spent directly on the provision of sporting and cultural facilities in comparison to other expenditure programmes; the percentage in this case in each of the past three years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19444/00]

While responsibility for sporting facilities rests with the Minister for Sport, Recreation and Tourism the responsibility for cultural facilities rests with the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands. I have overall responsibility for the national lottery.

For presentation purposes it has been the practice to show youth-sport-recreation amenities together and to show arts-culture-national heritage together as there is a certain degree of overlap between them.

Lottery-funded expenditure on youth-sport-recreation-amenities during the past three years was as follows:

1997 £29.315 million 30% of Lottery Funding

1998 £37.219 million 33% of Lottery Funding

1999 £38.232 million 33% of Lottery Funding

Lottery-funded expenditure on arts-culture-national heritage during the past three years was as follows:

1997 £24,509 million 25% of Lottery Funding

1998 £26.539 million 23% of Lottery Funding

1999 £22.954 million 20% of Lottery Funding
