Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

369 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he will appoint a new Garda sergeant to Ballyglass, Claremorris, County Mayo. [27678/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda personnel to individual areas that the strength of Ballyglass Garda station has been one Garda for a number of years. When the station is not open, the ‘green man' facility and telephone call diversion systems are in operation and linked to the district headquarters at Castlebar.

I am also informed that an official Garda vannette is available for use by the local Garda as required. Resources are augmented from within the division with additional patrolling carried out by district patrol crews from Castlebar, the divisional traffic unit and detective branch personnel. There are also four community alert schemes in operation in the sub-district.

I am further informed that the situation will be kept under review and when the next sergeants' promotion list is promulgated, consideration will be given to the allocation of a sergeant to Ballyglass within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
