Officials of my Department have had a series of workshops and discussions with the professional bodies representing 13 professions, including those representing chiropody, with a view to agreeing a system of statutory registration for health and social care professionals. Detailed proposals have been formulated with representatives of the professional bodies and these are now being considered in detail by the membership of the professional bodies. It is proposed that the heads of the Bill on the statutory registration of health and social care professionals, including chiropody, will be prepared in 2001.
