Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Television Reception.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

201 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands when people living in a Gaeltacht area (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive the signal for the television channel TG4. [3033/01]

The issue raised by the Deputy is the day to day responsibility of the RTE authority and I have no statutory function in the matter. However, in accordance with long-standing custom, I am prepared to furnish to the House information supplied by RTE in response to questions relating specifically to improvements in reception of RTE's national broadcasting services.

RTE informs me that television reception of RTE 1, Network 2 and TG4 is marginal in the Finney area and due to the terrain it is extremely difficult to serve. RTE has stated that it has surveyed the area but to date has not located a suitable transmission site. RTE cannot give a timescale for work in this respect due to factors outside its control but efforts are ongoing.
