Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

136 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive suckler cow premium and cattle headage for 2000. [3130/01]

The person named applied for premium on 36 animals under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme and for 29 beef cows and seven other animals under the 2000 cattle headage scheme on 31 May 2000.

At an on-farm inspection carried out on 12 August 2000 a number of discrepancies relating to the proper identification of five animals was discovered which resulted in the application of a 4.59% reduction penalty in respect of each claim under the terms and conditions of the schemes in question. The person named was advised of the position by letter on 14 December 2000 and was afforded the opportunity to have the decision reviewed within 21 days.

His entitlement under the 2000 cattle headage scheme of £2404.34 – £2520.00 less 4.59% reduction penalty = £115.66 – and his entitlement of £4978.12 – 35.4 animals @ £147.39 = £5217.60 less 4.59% reduction penalty = £239.48 – under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme will issue within the next seven days.

Ceist:

138 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason incorrect information was supplied in the reply to a parliamentary question regarding a person (details supplied) in County Mayo. [3132/01]

The information provided in answer to Parliamentary Question No. 369 of 30 January 2001 did not conflict with earlier information given to the Deputy.

The position is that the 2000 area aid application of the person named contained incorrect details regarding a particular plot of land declared on his application. The townland declared by the person named did not match the map provided by him and this only came to light in the course of the digitising process last month.

Clarification was sought from the person named by way of letter, which issued from the area aid unit on 24 January 2001 regarding the particular plot of land. In the reply received from Teagasc on 1 February 2001 on behalf of the person named, an amendment was made to his 2000 area aid application, changing the townland name of the problem plot to a different townland name.

The new information received has enabled the new plot of land to be digitised and entered on the Department's electronic database. The application has now been processed and any payments due will issue as soon as possible.
