Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

272 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the grants available to local authorities to upgrade the heating systems in local authority owned housing stock, especially those occupied by senior citizens; if he will give consideration to such grants, especially where natural gas is available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6215/01]

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

275 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has responded to the request from Galway County Council for a special grant in order to enable the county council to install central heating as part of the programme in the essential repairs of local authority houses in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5405/01]

Ceist:

286 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will consider establishing a new funding subhead to set aside funding for the installation of central heating to Dublin Corporation houses and those belonging to other local authorities. [5587/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 272, 275 and 286 together.

I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 763 and 838 of 30 January 2001. There are no resources available to my Department to provide additional funding for local authorities to install central heating facilities in existing rented dwellings.

A submission from Galway County Council seeking approval for a range of proposals involving their housing stock, including the provision of central heating, is currently under examination. In this context the council will be advised of the current arrangements for the funding of central heating installation.
