Vol. 531 No. 3

Written Answers. - Museum of Modern Art.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

356 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the plans she has to intercede with the Museum of Modern Art to secure the donation to the State of a major collection of modern art from the United States; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5909/01]

The acquisition policy of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, including the acceptance of donations of collections is a matter for the board of that body. I would be happy to lend whatever appropriate support I could to the board in any endeavours to acquire by donation a collection for the institution, if a request for such support were to be received. I have not received any such request.

Ceist:

357 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the role of her Department in the activities of the Museum of Modern Art in the context of financial or pol icy input; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [5910/01]

The Irish Museum of Modern Art is a Company Limited by Guarantee and not having share capital. I appoint the members of the board of the museum whose responsibility it is to oversee the direction of the museum in accordance with the provisions of its memorandum and articles of association. My Department provides an annual grant-in-aid through its Vote towards the cost of running the institution.
