Vol. 532 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

380 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the assistance available for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo in third class of primary school, in view of the fact this person has learning difficulties; if this person will be given extra hours tuition; and the help which his Department can give this pupil as he needs extra care and attention in school. [6810/01]

My Department has not received an application for support in respect of the child in question.

I understand that the school authorities are currently awaiting assessment reports on a number of other pupils with special needs attending the school. I understand that when these reports are received, the school will apply to my Department for resource teacher support for all the children in question, including the child to whom the Deputy refers. I can assure the Deputy that any such application will receive full consideration and that any necessary supports will be put in place.
