Vol. 532 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Ceist:

402 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when funding will be sanctioned for a water scheme (details supplied) in County Mayo. [7447/01]

Contract documents for the extension of the Lough Mask regional water supply scheme to Kilmaine and Shrule were submitted to my Department in 1987 but have not been approved.

The scheme was thirteenth on the list of water schemes submitted by Mayo County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002 announced last July. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demand and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time.

John Perry

Ceist:

403 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make funding available for Strandhill sewerage scheme in County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7448/01]

This scheme was included in the most recent round of approvals under the serviced land initiative.
