Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Blackstock Report.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

458 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the cost of implementing the Blackstock report on second level funding, distinguishing the cost of each of the main recommendations. [19558/01]

The Blackstock Group estimated that the cost of implementation of their proposals in the case of secretarial and caretaking services, using the salary converters identified, would be in the region of £10.3 million per annum. The group pointed out that this estimate related only to the second level sector, and that their proposals could have cost implications in the primary sector. While the group did not provide an estimate of the costs involved in relation to its other recommendations, because of the traditional anomalies in the funding mechanisms, it identified a number of policy options in this regard. The group did not, however, provide estimates of the costs involved in these options.
