Vol. 540 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pupil-Teacher Ratio.

Derek McDowell

Ceist:

512 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Education and Science if the allocation of a further resource teacher to St. David's CBS post primary school, Dublin 5, will be considered in view of the fact that three children with special needs have been accepted into the school for the 2001-2002 school year. [20077/01]

My Department has approved the allocation of additional teaching resources to the school concerned to cater for the assessed needs of two special needs pupils enrolled in the school. If the number of special needs pupils enrolled in the school has increased, the school authorities may submit an application, together with full supporting documentation, to my Department for an increase in the allocation already approved.

If such an application is received, it will be referred to the psychological service for consideration. As soon as their report has been received and considered, the school authorities will be notified of the outcome.
