Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

944 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the status of an application by an asylum seeker (details supplied); if he will confirm that an initial deportation order was withdrawn due to a Supreme Court decision, but that he intends issuing a new deportation order; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22354/01]

I am informed that the case of the person concerned is the subject of ongoing legal proceedings. I can confirm that, on foot of a recent Supreme Court decision, I have revoked the deportation order originally served on the person concerned and have recently written to her setting out setting out the various options currently open to her under section 3 of the Immigration Act, 1999. A reply is awaited to this correspondence. It would be inappropriate for me to comment further in this case.
