Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Naturalisation Applications.

Gay Mitchell

Ceist:

945 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if persons (details supplied) in Dublin 12 will be naturalised. [22355/01]

An application for a certificate of naturalisation from the person referred to by the Deputy was received in my Department on 20 February 2001. The application is being considered under the provisions of section 15 of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1956, as amended in 1986 and is in the early stages of the process. I informed the House both late last year and early this year that I intended to allocate significant additional resources to the citizenship area to reduce the then processing time of two and a half years. This has been done and the average processing time for applications for naturalisation now stands at 18 months – a reduction of 12 months approximately. It is likely, therefore, that the application referred to in the Deputy's question will be finalised in the second half of next year. As soon as full consideration has been given to this application, I will advise both the applicant and the Deputy of my decision.

Questions Nos. 946 to 949, inclusive, lapsed.

Question No. 950 answered with Question No. 107.
