Vol. 547 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

1272 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science the reasons for the delay in providing a sports hall at Castleknock Community College, Dublin 15; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2204/02]

The allocation for post-primary buildings in 2002 is 182.31 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the accommodation situation in post-primary schools. This is almost four times the previous Government's investment in 1997.

Due to the greatly increased level of investment in the post-primary buildings area since this Government came into office, there has been a substantial increase in the number of major and minor building projects in construction and this has given rise to a record level of building and refurbishment activity.
A PE Hall of 806mf7>2 is being provided at Castleknock Community College as part of the Government's programme and is currently at stage 1 in architectural planning. It will continue to the next stage as soon as possible under the expanded building programme.

Ceist:

1273 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science when he expects construction work to start on the extension and refurbishment at Coláiste Phadraig, Lucan, County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2205/02]

The allocation for post-primary buildings in 2002 is 182.31 million, which is a record level of funding and demonstrates this Government's commitment to improving the infrastructural needs in post primary schools.

The extension project at Coláiste Phádraig, Lucan, County Dublin forms part of the Government's commitment to improving post primary school buildings. Stage 4/5, detail design/bill of quantities, of architectural planning has been completed and the issue of proceeding to tender stage will be considered as soon as possible and notified to the school authority.
