Michael Ring

Ceist:

195 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of FÁS schemes which were operational nationally for each of the past three years; the number of FÁS schemes in operation nationwide; and the number of people who have been taken off FÁS schemes in the past number of years. [17087/02]

Ceist:

196 Mr. Ring asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of FÁS schemes operational in County Mayo for each of the past three years; the number of FÁS schemes in operation in County Mayo; and the number of people taken off FÁS schemes in the past number of years. [17088/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 195 and 196 together.

The allocation of places to individual projects and regions is a matter for FÁS. FÁS prioritises projects according to the types of services provided and levels of unemployment in the locality, and co-ordinates reductions so as to minimise the negative effects on groups and services most in need of CE. Drugs task force activity and childcare service provision are ring fenced from any reductions and projects in RAPID areas are given top priority.

I have arranged for the director general of FÁS to supply the detailed information requested.
